checked September 2026 pricing verified August 2026

undefined

Similarweb does not publish prices. Its pricing page routes you to sales, and the paid tiers are annual contracts.

There is a free version, but it is a handful of lookups a month. Everything below tells you what it costs, and three are free permanently.

Prices and free limits were checked against each vendor’s own pages on 14 September 2026.

Cloudflare Radar

Measured, not modelled

Cloudflare sits in front of a large share of the web, so its rankings and trend data come from traffic it actually handles rather than from a panel of volunteers. You get domain rankings, traffic trends, and country and protocol breakdowns. What you do not get is the marketing detail Similarweb sells: channel splits, referral sources, keyword-level traffic. Use it to sanity-check any estimate you are shown.

Free tier: Free tier: yes, and there is no paid tier. Public data, no account needed.

02

SpyFu

What competitors bid on

Aimed at paid search rather than total traffic: every keyword a competitor has bought, every ad they have run, and how that has changed over years. Its organic data is weaker than Ahrefs or Semrush. It is on this list because it publishes its prices and its historic ad archive is genuinely hard to find elsewhere.

Free tier: Free tier: limited searches without an account; paid plans are published monthly prices, unusually for this category.

03

Google Trends

Demand, straight from Google

Not a competitor-traffic tool, and that is the point: it tells you whether interest in a topic is rising or falling, by country and over time, using Google own search data rather than a model. For the question most people are really asking, whether a market is growing, it is more reliable than any estimate. It will not tell you anything about a specific website.

Free tier: Free tier: yes, no account, no limits.

04

Serpstat

Cheapest full SEO suite

Competitor keywords, backlinks, rank tracking, site audit and a share-of-voice view, at prices that undercut Ahrefs and Semrush substantially. Its index is smaller, so expect fewer keywords and backlinks for the same domain. For a freelancer or small agency who needs the whole workflow rather than the deepest index, the value is hard to argue with.

Free tier: Free tier: a small number of daily queries; paid plans published and well below the market leaders.

Paid, published monthly plans
05

Sistrix

The European choice

Strongest in Germany and across European markets, and its Visibility Index is the metric SEO teams there actually quote in meetings. Modular pricing means you buy only the parts you use. Coverage of English-language US data is respectable but not its strength. If your market is European, this is the tool your competitors are using.

Free tier: Free tier: free lookups of the Visibility Index for any domain, which is genuinely useful on its own.

Paid, published monthly modules
06

BuiltWith

What a site is built on

Answers a different competitive question: which analytics, payments, ecommerce platform, ad networks and CDN a site runs. Useful for sizing a market by technology, for lead lists, and for working out how a competitor is actually operating. It tells you nothing about traffic volume.

Free tier: Free tier: yes, individual site lookups are free; bulk lists and reports are paid.

Can you use Similarweb for free? Barely

There is a free version: a browser extension and a small number of website lookups a month, showing headline visits, top countries and traffic sources in summary.

It is enough to check one competitor occasionally. It is not enough to do research, and that is deliberate. Everything beyond it is quote-based: Similarweb’s pricing page does not list a number, it routes you to sales, and the paid tiers are annual contracts.

That is the honest reason this page exists. Most people searching for an alternative are not looking for better data. They are looking for data with a price on it.

Understand what traffic estimates actually are

This is the most useful thing on this page, and it changes how you should use any of these tools.

Nobody outside a website can see its real traffic. Similarweb, Semrush and Ahrefs all produce estimates, built from some combination of clickstream panels, browser extension data, ISP arrangements and modelling. The estimates are then calibrated against the sites whose real numbers the vendor can see.

The practical consequences are consistent and worth knowing. Accuracy is decent for large sites and poor for small ones, often out by a factor of several below roughly 50,000 visits a month. Different tools disagree with each other substantially for the same domain. And estimates are far better at direction than at level: “this competitor has roughly tripled since January” is trustworthy in a way that “this competitor had 184,000 visits last month” is not.

So use estimates comparatively, never as a figure in a business case. Where you need a real number, Cloudflare Radar is measured rather than modelled, and Google Trends gives you actual search demand.

Semrush or Similarweb?

They are sold into the same meetings and they answer different questions.

Similarweb is market intelligence. Total traffic across every channel, audience overlap between competitors, app data, and industry benchmarks. It is bought by strategy, corporate development and investor-relations teams as much as by marketers.

Semrush is a search marketing tool. Keywords, rankings, backlinks, ads and site audits, with traffic analytics attached. It is bought by people whose job is to get more search traffic.

If you need to know whether a market is growing and who is winning it, Similarweb. If you need to know which keywords to target next week, Semrush, and our Semrush alternatives guide covers that field. Buying Similarweb to do keyword research is an expensive mistake, and so is the reverse.

A free stack that covers most of it

For a small business or a solo founder, three free tools answer most of the questions people buy Similarweb for.

Is this market growing? Google Trends, using real search volume by country over time.

Is this competitor bigger or smaller than us, and moving which way? Cloudflare Radar domain rankings and trends, measured from traffic Cloudflare handles.

How are they actually operating? BuiltWith for their technology stack, and SpyFu limited free searches for the ads they run.

That will not produce a slide with a precise visit count on it. It will tell you the truth about direction, which is what the decision usually turns on.

How we test and price these tools

Every price here was read from the vendor’s own pricing page in a browser on 14 September 2026. Where a vendor does not publish pricing, we say it is quote-based rather than repeating a figure from a review site.

For competitive intelligence we distinguish measured data from modelled estimates, and say which each tool provides, because that difference matters more than any feature. We also check what the free tier genuinely allows, since limited-lookup free plans are common in this category and are often described as though they were usable.

We read current Reddit threads for each tool, so the views here are from this year. No vendor pays for a place on this list.

Questions

Similarweb alternatives FAQs

Taken from Google’s results and current threads on Reddit.

How we test
01 Is there a free alternative to Similarweb?

Cloudflare Radar is free and uses measured traffic rather than estimates, which makes it the best free check on a competitor size and direction. Google Trends is free for market demand. BuiltWith gives free individual lookups of a site technology stack. Together they cover most of what people buy Similarweb for.

02 Can I use Similarweb for free?

Only lightly. There is a browser extension and a small monthly allowance of website lookups showing headline visits and top sources. Anything beyond that is quote-based on an annual contract, and the pricing page routes you to sales rather than listing a figure.

03 Which is better, Semrush or Similarweb?

They answer different questions. Similarweb is market intelligence: total traffic across all channels, audience overlap and industry benchmarks. Semrush is search marketing: keywords, rankings, backlinks and audits. Buying one to do the other job is expensive and disappointing.

04 How accurate are website traffic estimates?

Reasonable for large sites, poor for small ones, and frequently out by a factor of several below about 50,000 visits a month. Different tools disagree substantially for the same domain. Trust the direction of travel rather than the number, and never put an estimate in a business case as fact.

05 What is the cheapest paid alternative?

Serpstat and SpyFu both publish monthly prices well below the market leaders, which is unusual in this category. Sistrix sells by module so you buy only what you use. All three are a fraction of a Similarweb contract, with smaller indexes as the trade.

06 Which alternative is best for European markets?

Sistrix. Its Visibility Index is the metric European SEO teams quote internally, its German and wider European coverage is the strongest here, and domain lookups of the index are free. US English coverage is respectable but not its strength.

07 How can I see what technology a competitor uses?

BuiltWith, free for individual site lookups. It shows the ecommerce platform, analytics, payment providers, ad networks and CDN a site runs, which tells you how a competitor operates even though it says nothing about their traffic volume.
