How this site makes money

Affiliate commissions pay for the seats we buy. Here is exactly what that does and does not influence.

AI Alternatives is funded by affiliate commissions and nothing else. This page explains exactly what that means, because a disclosure buried in a footer is not really a disclosure.

1. What an affiliate link is

Some links to tools on this site are tracked. If you follow one and later subscribe, the vendor pays us a commission. The price you pay is the same either way, and we do not receive any information about you personally from the vendor.

2. What it does not affect

  • Position. Rankings are locked before commercial links are added to a page.
  • Score. Scores come from the fixed test brief described in our methodology.
  • Inclusion. Tools with no affiliate programme are tested, ranked and recommended on exactly the same terms.
  • Criticism. We do not soften a finding because a tool pays a commission.

Several of our current top picks pay us nothing at all. If that changes the day after publication, the ranking does not move.

3. How links are labelled

Commercial links are marked where they appear, not only in a page footer. Outbound vendor links carry the appropriate rel attributes so search engines can see the relationship too.

4. Why we use this model

Testing is expensive. Buying our own seats across a category can cost several hundred pounds a month before anyone has written a word. Affiliate revenue pays for those seats and for the hours spent running the brief, which is what lets us refuse sponsorship, paid placement and vendor-supplied content.

5. What we will never do

  • Sell a ranking, a badge, an award or a “featured” slot.
  • Publish sponsored reviews or vendor-written copy.
  • Accept payment to insert links into existing articles.
  • Hide the fact that a link is commercial.

6. Other income

We do not currently run display advertising, sell data, or offer consulting to the vendors we review. If that ever changes, this page will be updated before the change goes live.
