What Suno’s free plan actually allows

Fifty credits a day, which is about ten songs. That part is generous.

What it does not include is the part people care about: no monthly song downloads, no commercial use, no stem separation, no add-on credits, and a shared creation queue. You can make music. You cannot use it for anything, or keep it.

Pro is $8 a month billed yearly, or $10 monthly. That is not expensive. It is simply not the only option any more, which is the whole reason this page exists.

Open weights caught up faster than anyone expected

Two years ago the honest answer to “is there a free Suno” was no. That changed twice this year.

In February 2026, ACE-Step 1.5 arrived with a claim that sounded like marketing until people tried it: Suno-adjacent quality on under 4 GB of video memory. The r/StableDiffusion thread ran to 241 replies, and the tone was disbelief followed by benchmarks.

In August, MiniMax released open weights for a music model that people working in the field called state of the art. Not “good for open source”. State of the art.

What this means practically: if you own a gaming laptop, you can generate unlimited music with no credits, no queue, no commercial restriction from a vendor, and nothing uploaded. What you give up is the polish of a hosted interface, the mobile app, and the community library. For a lot of people making background music for videos, that is a trade worth taking.

Can you actually use AI music commercially?

Two separate questions here, and people merge them.

Does the platform permit it? Suno free explicitly does not, and nor does the free tier of most rivals. Commercial rights start at the paid tier, and they usually end if you stop paying, so read what happens to tracks you already released.

Do you own the copyright? Different question, and the answer is uncomfortable. The US Copyright Office has taken the position that purely machine-generated output is not protected by copyright, and that protection attaches only to human authorship. So a track generated from a prompt may be yours to use under the platform’s licence, while not being yours to stop anyone else using.

If the music is background for your own video, none of this matters. If you are releasing and monetising it, take advice rather than a round-up’s word for it.

Which one for which job

Songs with vocals you will actually listen to. Udio or Mureka. Both are stronger on vocal realism than the cheaper options, and Udio’s editing tools let you extend a good take rather than reroll it.

Volume on a budget. Google Flow Music. Six dollars for roughly 600 songs is the lowest cost per track of anything hosted.

Unlimited, private, no subscription. ACE-Step, or MiniMax Music if your hardware allows. Nothing leaves your machine and nothing meters you.

Background music for video. Consider whether you need generation at all. A royalty-free library licence often costs less than a year of any of these and comes with cleared rights.

How we test and price these tools

Every price here was read from the vendor’s own pricing page in a browser on 6 September 2026, not copied from another round-up. During that check we found that Riffusion’s site now leads to flowmusic.app under Google Flow Music branding, which most published lists have not caught up with.

Music tools are sold in credits, so we convert each plan to an approximate cost per song and state it. We also record the three things free tiers actually restrict: downloads, commercial use and stem separation. A free plan that generates but does not let you keep the file is a demo.

For open models we state the video memory they realistically need. We read current Reddit threads for each tool, so the picks reflect what people are running this year. No vendor pays for a place on this list.
