About AI Alternatives

We buy the seats, run the tests and publish what we actually find

AI Alternatives is an independent review desk for AI software. We pay for our own subscriptions, run the same 40 tasks on every tool in a category, and publish the raw result even when it is inconvenient for the vendor.

Why we exist

Most AI “reviews” are affiliate pages with a ranking attached

Prices move every quarter, free tiers shrink without warning, and the tool that was best in January is often third best by June. We built this site because we were tired of guessing.

Same tasks, every tool

Each category gets a fixed brief of 40 prompts and jobs. Every contender runs the identical brief, so a score means the same thing across the whole hub.

Real prices, not “from” prices

We record what a working month actually costs at the seat count you are likely to buy, including minimums, overage and the annual-only discounts vendors like to headline.

Privacy and lock-in count

Where the data lives, whether it trains a model, and how hard it is to export your work are scored alongside output quality. A cheaper tool that traps your content is not cheaper.

Our promises

Four things we will never do

  • We never sell a ranking. No vendor can pay to move up, appear in a hub, or remove a criticism.
  • We never publish untested claims. If we could not run it ourselves, we say so on the page.
  • We never hide a change. Every hub carries a visible last-updated date and a short changelog.
  • We never bury the disclosure. Affiliate links are labelled inline, not in a footer nobody reads.
How we are funded

Affiliate revenue, kept away from the scoring

Some outbound links earn a commission if you subscribe. That revenue pays for the seats we buy and the hours we spend testing. It has no influence on position or score, because scores are locked before commercial links are added to a page.

Plenty of our top picks pay us nothing at all. If a tool has no programme and still wins, it still wins. You can read the full affiliate disclosure and our editorial standards.
